WHAT CAN EAR PINNING SURGERY ACHIEVE?
  • Make ears appear less prominent

  • Restore confidence and comfort

IS THERE AN EAR SURGERY ALTERNATIVE?

Cosmetic ear procedures such as pinning and earlobe repair are relatively quick but certainly very delicate. The main concern to achieve the best otoplasty results is the achievement of symmetry between the ears. Dr Cotrufo will be able to discuss which surgery if any is best suited to your needs and guide you through any other options available during your consultation.

DURING YOUR EAR SURGERY CONSULTATION, YOU WILL:
  • Talk about the reasons you are considering ear reshaping surgery

  • Speak with Dr Cotrufo and learn more about the relevant procedure

  • Have a full health evaluation

  • Discuss the care you can expect to receive before, during and after your ear procedure

  • Undergo an assessment of the ear area

  • Discuss the options open to you

  • Talk about costs and timescales

WHAT TO EXPECT BEFORE YOUR EAR SURGERY

As your surgery approaches it is likely that you will be asked to make some small changes and in particular to avoid certain activities and medications.

This may include:

  • Taking medical tests including blood tests

  • Stopping smoking

  • Adjusting or taking certain medications

  • Avoiding aspirin, herbal supplements and anti-inflammatory drugs

  • Refraining from drinking alcohol

  • Avoiding sun overexposure, particular to the ear area

  • Committing not to make stringent changes to your diet

If you choose to undergo a general anaesthetic you will need to follow fasting instructions.

THE EAR PINNING PROCEDURE
  • Ear pinning usually takes around 1 hour

  • Some cartilage and skin are usually removed to allow the ears to be repositioned

  • The ears are sculpted back and secured with sutures

AFTER YOUR EAR SURGERY

In the days following your surgery your ears are likely to ache and be tender.

After that:

  • You may experience a little numbness, this should settle within a few weeks

  • You will need to wear a supportive bandage for around 2-4 week

  • Children who have had an ear pinning procedure should be able to return to school after 1 week

  • You should avoid vigorous exercise, heavy lifting and hot and spicy foods for around a week after surgery

  • Most of the swelling and bruising will subside within 7-14 days

  • The sutures are usually self-dissolving so there is no need to struggle after your surgery

  • You should avoid steam baths, saunas and sunbathing for several weeks

  • You will need to avoid activities that may result in your ear being bent

  • Your scars will take time to heal, they may appear to get worse in the first few months then settle and then flatten and fade after around 6 months

Torn Earlobe Repair

The demand for earlobe repair surgery has risen significantly in recent years as people seek to correct the effects of accidents or ear stretching through another simple surgical procedure.

Why choose cosmetic ear surgery?

Our ears are prominent features and if you’re unhappy with how yours look, it can make you self-conscious and make a real impact on your confidence, even affecting the way you style your hair.

If your earlobes have split due to an accident or have been stretched to accommodate jewellery in the past, earlobe surgery can help return your lobes to a more natural shape, even if you have lobes with large creases or wrinkles.
